A Message From Dr. Steele

I am so happy to be able to share my expertise with you through these courses. After 15 years of counseling, I realized that I had grown stagnant in my treatment planning and clinical skills. To address this issue, I decided the pursue CBT certification through the Academies of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, an organization whose membership includes leaders in the field of CBT such as Judith Beck, Robert Leahy, Dennis Greenberger, and Christine Padesky. This was the best decision of my career as I have experienced significant growth in my career in terms of both my clinical skills and the number of referrals I receive.

To earn my certification, I completed over 40 hours of training with the Beck Institute and submitted a case write-up and session recordings for review and evaluation. Having earned my certification, not only am a certified CBT therapist and diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, but I am also an active member of the organization, serving on the Diversity Action Committee.

Beyond my clinical work, I also provide training and supervision of CBT. I have been an invited presenter at several national and international seminars and have also published peer-reviewed articles focused on cultural adaptations of CBT. In 2022, I'll release two books, Racism and African American Mental Health: Using Cognitive Behavior Therapy to Empower Healing, and Black Lives Are Beautiful: 50 Tools to Heal from Trauma and Promote Positive Racial Identity, both published through Routledge, an imprint of Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. It is my hope that through these efforts I am able to give back to my professional community and share some of my knowledge with you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Janeé M. Steele, PhD, LPC
